Different Flavours of Linux

Flavors of Linux come from different companies. They are also called distributers. The different distributions have slightly different applications to perform the same task.

For example, the package installer for Red Hat-based systems is either yum (Yellow-dog Update Manager) or more recently DNF and package repositories. At the same time, Ubuntu and Debian use apt (aptitude, apt-get, dpkg) to manage the installation of packages and the repositories are referred to as PPA’s.

Different flavors of Linux are:

  3. Centos
  4. Redhat Linux
  5. Linux Mint
  6. OPen SUSE
  7. PcLinuxOs
  8. Debian
  9. Mandriva
